Abstract :

We investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of leaf extract of Sida rhombifolia Linn and compared its effect with an anti-inflammatory agent Indometacin in rats.  The tested substance was leaf extract of Sida rhombifolia Linn, which were dissolved in 0,5 % CMC-Na solution and given in 3 doses: dose I 30 ppm/g body weight, dose II 60 ppm/g body weight, and dose III 120 ppm/g body weight. We evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of leaf extract of Sida rhombifolia Linn by measuring the inhibition of edema volume. The leaf extract of Sida rhombifolia Linn were administrated orally, thereafter, 0,05 ml carrageenan 1 % suspension was given intraplantar into the right paw rats. The edema volume was measured by the plethysmometer. The result showed that there was significant difference between the negative control group with all the tested dose at 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 120 minutes (p=0,00). It showed that leaf extract of Sida rhombifolia Linn had an anti-inflammatory activity at dose I 30 ppm/g body weight, dose II 60 ppm/g body weight, and dose III 120 ppm/g body weight. The dose 120 ppm/g body weight had biggest anti inflammatory activity likes Indometasin 10 mg/kg bodyweight.
