Abstract :

            Eye disease correlates with blindness. blindness is  the worst condition that can be caused by eye diseases. Although Blindness can not directly cause death, it decrease productivity. The problem starts with the high number of patients with eye diseases so that in 1967, the Ministry of Health  declared blindness as a national disaster. In Indonesia, there are four most potential eye diseases resulting  blindness. There are trachoma, glaucoma, xerophthalmia, and cataracts. The issues in this paper are why eye disease becomes a serious disease , what eye disease  impacts most in Indonesia, and what form of treatment and prevention  provided for eye diseases in 1967 until 1980. This writing focuses on the health history by using historical research methods that include heuristic, verification, interpretation and historigrafi. In Indonesia, the health program for eye health and blindness prevention was held in 1967 until 1980. It was done through the efforts of preventive, promotive and curative by experiencing   barriers from technical to lack of public response so that goverment shifted  these eye health services through health centers.
