Abstract :

This article explores the operationalization of OJS’s tram and its impacts in Surabaya between 1889 and 1930’s. As a part of urban history studies, this article is using the history’s methods, which are heuristic, historical criticism, interpretation, and historiography. I made use primary and secondary sources in this article. The primary sources which I used to are the OJS’s archives and newspapers, while for the secondary are G.H. von Faber’s books. OJS began to operate their tram in Surabaya on 1889. By that time they operated the steam tram (stoom tram), afterwards they also became to operate the more modern tram, electric tram (electrische tram) in 1923. However, the operationalization those two trams at the same time have caused one important impact, which is traffic accidents.
