Abstract :

Recently, the prevailing problem of drug logistic management in Public Health Centers (PHCs) of Sidoarjo Regency is the level of drug availability which is not complying with the requirement of health services. It is marked by the presence of drug excess, drug insufficiency and vacant drugs. This research aims at formulating a drug logistic management function in PHCs including drug planning, requesting, storage, distributing, complying with treatment guideline, drug delivering and updating drug information system (reporting/recording) so that PHCs’ drugs availability is fulfilling the need of health services. The sample is the entire PHCs (25) in Sidoarjo Regency. The result after analyzing the function of drug logistic management in Sidoarjo Regency’s PHCs reveals that not all function of drug management logistic was done according to the present guideline. This is shown by the level of drug availability with optimum category in PHCs is still low (0–25.81%), by administering antibiotics for non pneumonia acute respiratory infection and for non-specific diarrheas are still high (40–70%). Suggested efforts to overcome the circumstances are: drug requirement planning pursuant to the disease pattern of the specific PHCs’ region, arranging drug distribution up to PHCs sub unit following the guideline and improving provider’s compliance with standard therapy using rational drugs.
