Abstract :

Before 2002, Muhammadiyah Surabaya Hospital was a maternity hospital. From the preliminary survey, there was 13.3% of community respondent and 16.7% of patient respondent hadn’t known if Muhammadiyah Surabaya Hospital was a general hospital and also the average visit for the additional policlinic as much as 0-1 visit per day per clinic during 2005-2008. The purpose of this research was to analyze the readiness and to formulate a recommendation to prepare Muhammadiyah Surabaya Hospital as a general hospital type C. This research was observational study, using the cross sectional method on data collection at Muhammadiyah Surabaya Hospital. The information sources of this research were all hospital employees, related managers and director of Muhammadiyah Surabaya Hospital. The participants of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were director, vice director, medical manager, general manager and financial manager. The result showed Muhammadiyah Surabaya Hospital is not ready as a general hospital type C based on human resources factor, management factor, infrastructure factor and service factor. The recommendations are: (1) build employees mindset into a high tolerance toward change; (2) increase employees’ knowledge about the difference of general hospital and maternity hospital based on its service and human resources.
