Abstract :

Abstract:Background: There are few studies on culture bound syndrome that have actually explained the healing methods for patients with mental disorders. This research focuses on exactly this aspect of the disease, the methods with which patients with mental disorder can be cured. The Problem: Healing methods for patients with mental disorder in Pondok Pesantren Subulussalam, Kediri and Paguyuban Among Budaya, Mojokerto. Objective: This study aims to describe the patterns of human behavior that may lead to mental disorders, and how those suffering from mental disorders cover. Methods: This research used descriptive qualitative method by doing observation and indepth interviewing with 11 informants for its data taking technique. Research has been conducted in two locations, Pondok Pesantren Subulussalam Kediri and Paguyuban Among Budaya Mojokerto. The second research site is where people with mental disorders may be cured without using medicine. Results: The actual causes in a person experiencing mental disorder relate to aspects that may be biological, psychological, social, and or cultural. This may occur in situations where the environment or lifestyle is such that there are high levels of stress for long periods of time. Methods that can be practiced to heal patients with mental disorder may be medical or non medical. The research conducted indicate that non medical (alternative) healing methods on the two sites exhibited characteristic of each (location), Pondok Pesantren Subulussalam in Kediri use the Islamic method of healing by means of meriadho’i, and Paguyuban Among Budaya in Mojokerto apply Kejawen healing methods by relying on the forces of nature
