Abstract :
The role of human resources in the production process and the developmentdetermined by the amount and quality of available labor. The quality of manpower with the skills and high skills are needed in the development process toimprove productivity and national production. It is indisputable that the lowproductivity of labor is one of the causes of poverty, which means that povertyis not entirely caused by unemployment. Many people or poor families havean income, fixed income, but even into the poor category as the currentpoverty line because their income is very low. Therefore, this study wasconducted to determine and assess the influence of economic growth, workerproductivity, the number of residents aged 15 years and over who graduatedfrom junior high school, high school, and college to the number of poor in EastJava in 2001-2007. The method is used in this study is the method of GLS(Generalized Least Squares). Where the model estimation results show thatthe PDRB variable as a proxy of economic growth, worker productivity, thenumber of residents aged 15 years and over who graduated from junior highschool, senior high school and college education as a proxy education affectsignificantly to the number of poor people in East Java in the period 2001-2007.
