Abstract :
There is a doubt that climate change might have a direct impact onagricultural sektor, especially in tropical countries, such as Indonesia. Doesweather change giving impacts on agricultural productivity? What is thefurther impact on poverty reduction? The purpose of this paper isinvestigating the likely impact of climate change on agricultural growth,especially on rice production. Changing in seasoning periods, such as longerdry season, late but extremely heavy rainy season is not comfortable foragricultural practices. In case of Indonesia, environmental degradation andchange in season patterns contribute into more frequent disasters. Examplesuch as cases of flooding in some regions in Jawa, results in reduction ofharvesting rice volume. Unstable in rice production bring about fluctuation inrise's market price. Data clearly indicate that inflation rate during 2008-2009are heavily weighted by an increase in staple food price. This paper comes tothe conclusion that climate change has indirect impact on poverty reductionthrough the fluctuation in staple food price.
