The differences of mother’s role in stimulating preschooler’s development on working and not working mothers at puskesmas banyu urip surabaya

Abstract :

Introduction: The development of preschool aged children is very important because they already adapted to the environment. If there are obstacle in this stage, it can affect the next stages. The mother’s role is very important in stimulating preschooler’s development, so they will develop optimally. However, nowadays there are 47,24% mother go to work in Indonesia. It can effect mother’s role in stimulating their children. The aim of this research was to examine the differences of mother’s role in stimulating preschooler’s development on working and not working mothers. Method: This was a descriptive analytic study. The population was preschooler’s mothers at Puskesmas Banyu Urip Surabaya. Samples were 17 working and 17 not working mothers, taken by using purposive sampling. The independent variable was mother’s role. The dependent variable was the stimulation of preschool. Data were collected by using questionnaires. Data were then analyzed by using Mann Whitney Test α≤0.05. Result: Result had shown that there was differencens of mother’s role in stimulating preschooler’s development on working and not working mothers (p=0,018). Discussion: Mother’s role in stimulating preschooler’s development on working and not working mothers had significant differences. A working mother is expected to spend much time and activities to stimulate their children.
