Abstract :

Millennium development goals addresses the civilization of the healthy society through promotion, prevention and community empowerment. But early detection of the high risk pregnancy by the society is still under target, about 80 percent. Early detection of the high risk pregnancy relates to the classification or activities to get pregnant women detected as high risk population. It enables the society or health workers to do adequate treatment and eventually successfully decrease the death of mother and child. Pregnant women empowerment seems to have great impact and beneficial to the decreasing number of mother and child death. The research analyzed the empowerment of pregnant women to detect earlier their first three months high risk pregnancy in Posyandu at Puskesmas Jagir, Surabaya. The research was quantitative and applied as pre-experiment, “one group pretest - posttest design.” Based on purposive sampling, thirty five women on their first three semester pregnancy were participated in this research. Dependent variable was pregnant women empowerment, independent variable were character, knowledge, behavior, personal autonomy, social support, information access, situation to act. Data was analyzed according to Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with the significance level of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05). Logistic Regression Test showed no influence on the ability of pregnant women to detect early risk pregnancy. But personal autonomy indicates p = 0.047 (p < 0.05), as having significant influence on personal autonomy with the ability to detect early high risk pregnancy. Pregnant women with better personal autonomy will detect their risk and assess their pregnancy as well as to choose health service institution.   Keywords: empowerment, pregnant women, early detection of high risk pregnancy
