Abstract :
This study was started from an interest in the development of leadership identity in students and became one of soft skills improvement program leadership at the University of Airlangga, Surabaya. Leadership identity is a process of individuals become a leader through 6 stages that begins from self-awareness to identify potential associated with the leadership within the individual. In this identification process was required self esteem.Population in this study were students in S1 and D3 levels at Airlangga University Surabaya, which totally reach 17,058 students. The sampling of this research was 543 students from all faculties by using non-probability sampling approach (purposive sampling). The data collection on self estem using Likert scale. The identity of leadership was measured with thursthone scale. Data analysis was performed by Spearman's rank correlation technique. Alpha reliability test results show that the Cronbach reliability coefficient value of self esteem questionnaire and identity for leadership are 0.652 and 0.690. Thus, both questionnaires are reliable. The correlation between these two variables is 0.194 with p = 0.000 indicating that there is a relationship between the self esteem and the identity of the student leadership at Airlangga University Surabaya.
