The aim of this research was to get an insight regarding mental health literacy of the health agentfrom Posyandu Lansia (community based preventive and promotive care for senior) that is under thecoordination of Puskesmas (local government clinic) Rangkah. 22 health agents coming from 4different retirement homes were selected through purposive sampling to be involved in this research. The survey was conducted by using open ended health related questionnaires which were madebased on cases and general questions. Four cases were presented in which two were using the caseput forwards by Jorm (1997), and the remaining two cases were made based on actual cases thathappen in the Puskesmas. The result indicated that health agents' ability to identify depressionrelated cases was good, compared to psychotic cases, although the terminology used was not thataccurate. The health agents were also able to identify the existence of mental health cases that werein their surroundings. In terms of the knowledge in giving recommendations, most of the healthagents could refer to a professional and give recommendations that are practical and can be appliedin everyday life. The result of this research can be the foundation for education needs and training inknowledge of mental health
