Abstract :
The ability of public speaking in the academic sphere has an important role to prepare students with competitiveness. However , sometimes some students tend to experience anxiety to speak in public, which is influenced by various factors, including physiological things, negative thoughts, negative emotions and avoidance behavior . This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Ego State therapy method to overcome public speaking anxiety . Sampling techniques were non probability sampling. From 123 students of the Faculty of Psychology of Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic State University Jakarta, there were 15 people given the Ego State therapy method. Data analysis in this study used paired t-test (paired samples t-test) i.e. comparing the mean scores of anxiety before and after therapy . Data processing result produces p = 0.000 <0.05 indicating a difference anxiety scores before and after Ego State therapy . Ego State Therapy significantly decreases the level of public speaking anxiety of the students at the Faculty of Psychology of Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic State University Jakarta.
