Abstract :
The major aim of this research is to identify how Japan as a nations-state may Influence the implementation of the International Whalling Commision’s (IWC) mandate in the case of mistreatments of dolphins in Taiji, Japan. In more details, through neorealism perspectives this research found that there are 2 variables that gives influence structurally; (1) power orientation in organization (How the power in organization is oriented), (2) organization design. Meanwhile, every year in Taiji, Japan, hundreds of dolphins are herded into coves, captured by inhumane hunts, and killed. The hunt also threatens populations of these dolphins. In this case IWC acts differently compared to other cases of small cetaceans protection. IWC cannot stop Taiji’s inhumane dolphin hunts despite international pressures that want them to end this annual hunt.
