Abstract :
Physiological changes during pregnancy and lactation affect the process of drug absorption,distribution, metabolism and excretion in the body. This study aims to determine the profile of drug usedduring pregnancy and lactation including the constraints of drug use, concern about using drugs, andsafety related to get the drug, the accuracy of drug indication and dosage. The data collection wasconducted in some districts in Surabaya including Gubeng, Karang Menjangan and Mojo. The study wasdesigned as a cross sectional through a survey using a questionnaire. The data were collected from 121respondents who were pregnant and lactating mothers aged 25-40 years. The results showed that pregnantwomen obtained drugs and supplements through healthcare professionals (100%). Lactating mothersobtained drugs and supplements through self-medication (84,5%) and through healthcare professionals(15,5%). Drugs and supplements obtained through self-medication were (100%) appropriate indicationand dosage. Respondents of pregnant women did not have problems in using drugs (0%), but still hadconcerns in using drugs (67,6%). Respondents of lactating mother still have problems when using drugs(5,26%) and concerns about using drugs (14,3%). Furthermore in this study, pharmacists are expected toprovide education through health promotion.
