Visual support method on children with autism learning

Abstract :
This study aims to know the description of the use of visual support methods in the learning ofchildren with autism. Method of visual support is related to body language, natural environmental cues, and traditional tools for organizing and giving information which affectsthe understanding, communication and independence of the child. The study was conductedusing a qualitative approach. Subjects were 3 people with autism therapist therapy centers inthree different places. Data collection tool with a narrative of observation and recording whichfeatures interviews with an interview guide in therapy. Interview data analysis techniques usingthematic analysis by coding the interview transcripts. The results showed that the method ofbody language visual support include facial expressions, limb movement; pointing, holding,move the hand, shook his head, nodded his head to help children with autism to communicate.Method of natural environmental cues visual support provided by the therapist include imagesand objects around has three stages, namely identification, equalize, and label. This visualsupport to help children in an easy understanding of the familiar environment. Methods oftraditional tools for organizers and giving information visual support include compic, visualschedules, social stories and activity cards to help children in choosing independence,independence of time and understanding of an event.
