Kecerdasan emosional siswa sekolah menengah pertama ditinjau dari faktor demografi

Abstract :

The aims of this research is to examine the emotional intelligence differences of junior high school students in terms of demographic factors, consisting of gender, parents educational level, parents occupation and parents income, on emotional intelligence of junior high school students. This research uses descriptive quantitative approach. Accordance with the targets and characteristics of the population in this research the number of samples determined by researchers is 266 students from class VIII of SMP Al Falah Deltasari Sidoarjo and SMP Negeri 21 Surabaya. The sampling techniques used in this research is purposive sampling technique. Data conducted using a questionnaire, which distributed to students who meet the criteria of sampling. Demographic factors data constitutes the nominal data. While the emotional intelligence data are ordinal data, which is the answer to the questions contained in the questionnaire using emotional intelligence by Likert scale model. Validity used in this experiment is contents validity. Validity contents can be determined only based on the professional judgement. Testing validity contents done by 3 psychological lecturer of university airlangga. While reliability test done by used cronbach’ s alpha coefficient. Hypothetical testing of this research is using ANOVA test with One Way Anova procedur use computer program IBM SPSS Statistics 20. The hypothical test results in this research found the existence of significant differences in students emotional intelligence in terms of gender. Whereas in terms of the other demographic factors, parents educational level (father and mother), parents occupation (father and mother) and parent income not found any significant differences of students emotional intelligence. This result was possible due to the mindset of general Indonesian society, and especially in Surabaya and its surrounding areas, which are still too often drape their’s son education to the school.
