Abstract :

Based on data from Indonesia Demographic Health Survey (IDHS) in 2002-2003 showed that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia is still high at 307 per 100,000 births, which means there were two maternal deaths every hour. The high MMR in Indonesia linked to maternal health care during pregnancy. The high maternal mortality rate in Indonesia was still able to do prevention, one of them through Health Education. Identify and analyze the Madura culture in society which contribute to the maintenance of pregnancy by the mother during pregnancy.  This study is descriptive and based on the time of this study design included a cross sectional design. Respondents were pregnant women as much as 20 people in the village Tambak and village Rapa laok District Omben Sampang Regency taken by purposive sampling. Results showed that respondents of low education, high risk pregnancy, and cultural influence is still strong enough. There are three elements of culture that became mandatory in abstinence and pregnancy care that is in the form of ideas, activities, and artifacts. considered in addition to not incriminate the respondent feels calm and safe by taking care of pregnancy in accordance with these cultural elements.   The conclusion in this research that the majority of respondents still believe in and do maintenance of pregnancy in accordance with the form elements Madura culture ideas, activities, and artifacts. Madura culture in the treatment of hereditary pregnancy revealed by their families and communities about the respondents. //
