Abstract :

ABSTRACT Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are illness of the musculoskeletal system caused by work and work performance like awkward posture, load, duration and frequency as well as individual factors (age, tenure, smoking habits, BMI and sex). This study aimed to explore the correlation between risk and the individual characteristics with musculoskeletal disorders. The method is use analytic observational with cross sectional approach. Measured by RULA observation sheets and Nordic Body Map. The population of study are 60 nurses at the Bhakti Dharma Husada Surabaya hospital,  the sample are 33 nurses obtained by simple random sampling method. Data is analyzed by using the chi square test. The results show that the majority of respondent’s age between 25–35 years (81.8%), female (84.8%) with tenure < 5 years (63.6%), which have no exercise habits (45.5%), normal nutrition status (63.6%), smoking habits (6.1%) and awkward posture (87.9%). Occupational risk factors with musculoskeletal complaints have a very weak relation, which means there is no relation between the working positions with Musculoskeletal Disorder. These two variables have 0.033 correlation value. The conclusion of this study is the absence of relation between the working positions with musculoskeletal disorders using RULA method at Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital Surabaya. It is suggested that K3RS should more active for prevention of musculoskeletal disorders by providing education and training related to nursing.
