Abstract :

  ABSTRACT Complaints of fatigue is a condition with characterized by degradation of performance, whether physic or mental. The fatigue is a symptom and not a sign or disease. The fatigue can affect health and can cause accidents. This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the fatigue complaints on dentists in some of dental laboratories in Surabaya. This research is an analytic observational research with cross sectional planning. This research was conducted at three places: Alami dental laboratory, Abadi dental laboratory, and Mini dental laboratory. The research was conducted in three different places in order to determine the differences between dental laboratories and to collect a variety of data. These data were analyzed as factors that caused fatigue of dentists. The research sample consisted of 33 dentists which were taken by stratified random sampling. The independent variables studied were individual characteristics (age, sex, marital status, job tenure, sleep duration, and health conditions), work environment factors (work climate, local lighting, and noise), occupational factors (workload), and psychological factors (conflict with leaders and conflicts between co-workers). Analysis of the data was done by using logistic regression with a significant level of 0.05. The results showed that, among 33 dentists, 16 dentists (48.5%) experienced low level fatigue and 17 dentists (51.5%) experienced medium level fatigue. Factors that affect fatigue of dentists are marital status, job tenure, local lighting, and conflict between co-workers. To reduce the risk of the occurrence of fatigue, it was necessary to adjust the intensity of local lighting by replacing the lamp according to the needs of the dentists.   Keywords: fatigue, occupational, work environment
