Abstract :
Malaria is infectious disease caused by Plasmodium that can attack everybody such pregnant women, children under five years old as well as adult. It should be handled seriously based on comprehensive approach to decrease morbidity and mortality rates. Regency of South Barito, Province of Central Kalimantan, is malaria endemic area which environment, natural vector enemy and house construction influence spreading of malaria disease’s vector. Therefore the aim of this study was to analyze environmental and behavioral factors toward malaria incidence in Regency of South Barito, Province of Central Kalimantan. This study was designed as cross-sectional observational study conducted in May to June 2005. Sample size was 174 households with head of family stayed in Regency of South Barito, Province of Central Kalimantan as analysis unit. Statistical analysis of Chi-square was used to select significant variables that will be included in multiple logistic regression statistical test to determine variables of environment and behavior that influence malaria incidence. The data showed that variables included in multiple logistic regression model analysis were temperature (Chi-square, p = 0.02); vegetation (Chi-square, p = 0.00); house construction (Chi-square, p = 0.01); action in malaria prevention (Chi-square, p = 0.01); and respondent kind of work (Chi-square, p = 0.05). In multiple logistic regression model, the only significant independent variable that influenced malaria incidence was vegetation (p
