Abstract :
Reading community has been a big hit nowadays as it is starting to emerge its existence. The best trigger of it is teenager’s pleasure in reading popular text which is accompanied by the fast development of technology as well. This pleasure helps them to interact and explore their potential with other teenagers of the same interest. This social interaction gives a big impact 1 in their ident ities’ development when those teenagers are in their crit ical stage of ident it y development. Moreover, it helps their social relationship with another teenager in the community as well. Thus, social relationship holds an important role to their existence as the communit y member. This phenomenon gives a significant insight on building teenager’s social identity and social relationship within the community. Self-disclosure theory by Derlega and Grzerlack is used in conducting this descriptive qualitative research with random sampling method. Social validation, social control, self-clarification, self-expression, and relationship development enlighten the general idea of their social identity formation combined with some concepts such as closeness, emotional intimacy, reciprocal trust, shared experiences, ability to communicate, and self-disclosure to determine the strength of social relationship in forming the social identity. The result of examining 102 respondents as stated below; 34% greeted, introduced themselves, and asked help to the other member; 42% showed the title and genre of the book to get popular among the members; 40% gave feedback and rating to the book they had read in order to be accepted easily and acknowledged within the community; 52% were being friendly in certain activities; 63% gave pleasant response toward their partner’s idea; and 68% accepted all of the communit y rules to adapt. When the identity has merged to the community, 59% became the committee, 67% disinclined to be moderator, 78% were not interested to be the chief, and 55% did not want to be the board of media. In expressing themselves, 41% of the respondents were reviewing as well as giving rates to the book they have read, 65% offered productive criticism, and 45% contacting each other by personal message to build membership relation. As a final point, the score of closeness aspect is 2,45; emotional intimacy 2,83; reciprocal trust 2,57; shared experiences 2,42; ability to communicate 3,01; self-disclosure 2,84. Each of those six aspects categorized as strong aspects. It also categorized as strong category of social relationship with average result 2,68
