Abstract :
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of Methocel E-50 concentration as tablet binder on physical characteristics of Green Tea Extract Lozenges. The tablet were prepared by the wet granulation method using three different concentration of Methocel E-50 0.5% (F2); 1% (F3); and 1.5% (F4). The granule were evaluated for flowability, angle of repose, and moisture content. A hydraulic press was used for tabletting at 1 ton pressure. The diameter of the die was 13 mm. The tablets were subjected to hardness, friability, and dissolving time evaluation. The granule showed acceptable result on flow properties, angle of repose and moisture content. From statistical analysis it could be seen that there were significant difference among formulas for the dissolving time, but there were no significant difference among formulas for tablet hardness and friability. The dissolving time of green tea extract lozenges was significantly enhance by increasing Methocel E-50 concentration. All formulas had fulfilled the requirements of lozenges specification. This observation suggest that sorbitol based green tea extract lozenges could be formulated without the addition of binding agent.
