Abstract :
In decentralization era, the local bureaucracy has strategic position in the local government system. It is so, because it becomes the instruments and the fundamental base of the local government in implementing its affairs, and as the media to realize the vision, mission, and the objectives of local government. The successfull of local government is determined by the effectiveness of the local bureaucracy. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the local government with a locus in Maros of local bureaucracy. Through qualitative analysis methods the effectiveness of the local government was viewed from four dimensions of organizational effectiveness of the competing values approach. These four dimensions of the organizational effectiveness include flexibility, human development, organizational development, and control. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and indepth interview. The data were analysed using interractive model that included data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion stages. The results showed that the organizational internal of Maros Regency was stabil, and all the function ran well, with all the activities processing just as expected based on the regular procedure.
