Abstract :

How is the psychological development of adolescents in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD)after the tsunami disaster? Can they reach their developmental tasks normally? This wasa descriptive type of research. The subjects of this research were adolescent victims ofthe tsunami aged 12 to 17 years old in desa Krueng Anoi Kota Baro Aceh Besar NanggroeAceh Darussalam. Data were collected by means of observation, interviews, and FocusGroup Discussion. The result of the field study indicated that after the tsunami socialchanges happened in the Aceh community that influenced the NAD adolescent’sbehavior. These involved the new jobs available in the informal sector,which lowered theadolescent’s motivation to attend school; the appearance of consumptive behaviours onworking adolescents; the declining of adolescent’s interest on the local customs, includingthe Aceh arts. These adolescent’s behavioural changes became an indicator of changeswithin adolescent’s self identity formation.
