Abstract :
Abstract The aim of this research was to study the effect of storage time of ram’s semen in several types of diluters on the percentage of capacitation and acrosome reaction. Semen was collected six times using artificial vagina from the same ram, and then evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. Semen was divided into three groups which were diluted 5 times in Egg Yolk-Citrate (P1), Skim Milk-Egg Yolk (P2), and Extract Banana-Citrate (P3). Motility and live percentages of ram’s spermatozoa were monitored everyday. Evaluation of capacitation and acrosome reaction percentages was conducted everyday at the same time after storage at 5°C (for motility percentages over 40%). The results showed that the degradation of capacitation and acrosome reaction percentage in P1, P2 and P3 was relatively stable during storage time, but according to the diluter, capacitation and acrosome reaction percentages of P1, P2 and P3 were not significantly different (P>0,05). The conclusion of this experiment was that storage time influenced capacitation and acrosome reaction of ram’s spermatozoa, but the type of diluter used in this experiment had no significant effect to the capacitation and acrosome reaction of ram’s spermatozoa.
