Abstract :

The aim of this study was to determine the release of diclofenac sodium in niosome system (diclofenac sodium : Span 20 : cholesterol in 1:6:6 molar ratios) from HPMC 4000 gel base. This study, using two formulas; formula I gel was containing diclofenac sodium without niosome system and formula II gel was diclofenac sodium in niosome system. The results showed that diclofenac sodium in niosome system increased pH and spread-capacity of preparation; pH (6,57 ± 0,02) of formula II  higher than pH (5,94 ± 0,05) of formula I. Spread-capacity (7,6 ± 0,2 cm) of formula II was larger than spread-capacity (6,1 ± 0,1 cm) of formula I.  The release assay using diffusion cell covered with a cellophane membrane, phosphate buffer saline pH 7,4 ± 0,05 as test medium and temperature 32 ± 0,5°C for 6 hours. Flux release of diclofenac sodium from HPMC 4000 gel base in formula I and formula II were 155,6201 ± 4,9729 μg/cm2/minute½ and 49,0925 ± 0,8684 μg/cm2/minute½ respectively. The result was analyzed using Independent Sample T-test with α = 0,05. Research result revealed that diclofenac sodium release in niosome system from HPMC 4000 gel was lower than release of diclofenac sodium from formula without niosome system.
