Abstract :

Background: Internet Addiction is excessive maladaptive internet usage. Internet is used to cope depression, in other study reported that internet addiction may increase risk of depression. Objective: To analyze correlation between level of internet addiction symptoms and level of depression symptoms. Methods: This research is an observational analytic and cross sectional study, to determine correlation level of internet addiction symptoms that measured by Young’s Internet Addiction Test (IAT), with level of depressive symptoms that measured  by Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI II), in men internet café user in Surabaya. Results: Obtained 100 subjects who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Levels of internet addiction symptoms have positive correlation with level of depressive symptoms, duration of  internet usage and amount of costs. Age and education level have negative correlation with level of internet addiction symptoms. Level of internet addiction symptoms has correlation with occupational status. Conclusions: Level of internet addiction symptom has positive correlation with level of depressive symptoms.
