Psychosis of epilepsy

Abstract :
Nearly 30-50 % of epilepsy have some kind of psychiatric comorbidity , and psychiatriccomorbidity is often underestimated. Of all psychiatric comorbidity in epilepsy, psychosis may be the one that requires medical attention because of the stigma it creates so greatly affect the quality of life of patients with epilepsy. Currently there are two mechanisms that may underlie the pathophysiology of psychosis in epilepsy is caused by psychosis or psychosis recurring electrical discharges that occur together epilepsy . In the treatment, important to note that all antipsychotics reduce epileptogenic threshold and may cause epileptic seizures, pharmacokinetic interactions between antiepileptic and antipsychotic can change the desired therapeutic effect, and always pay attention to the choice and dose of drugs, avoiding the increase or decrease in antiepileptic drug abruptly, especially when there is a history of psychosis.
