Abstract :
Singapore's securitization action on Transboundary Haze Pollution (THP) issue due to Indonesian forest fires is an interesting topic in the study of non-traditional security in Southeast Asia. The reason, apart distinguishing from the majority response of other countries which also affected THP from Indonesia, Singapore securitization has been ongoing for about two decades, since 1997 until now. During that period of time, Singapore conducted securitization actions through various actions and create a pattern in each period, especially the periods specified in this research. By using the theory of securitization and non-traditional security theory, this research aims to analyze the emergence of Singapore's securitization patterns in viewing and responding to THP as an existential threat to the state. More specifically, this research focuses on the transformation or shifting pattern of Singapore's securitization on the THP issue in 1997-2016. Based on the data from literature review and the use of qualitative analysis techniques, this research proves that Singapore's securitization action on the THP issue indicates the existence of certain patterns that can be seen using two indicators: the type and the scope of action.
