Abstract :
Study about reading habit in cultural studies already given interesting results.Moreover to see how reading activity is created by popular culture industry. As astrategy to gain more non-stop profits, the popular culture industry is also createdtrend which directly welcomed by the urban youth, such as in Surabaya. Dystopiaas one of fiction genre which is being famous nowadays is related to how popularculture packs the imagination which never been imagined before to become acommodity. With the use of Simulacra theory by Baudrillard, this study want tosee the process of meaning inside reading activity which experienced by theSurabaya youth when they are reading dystopian novel. According to theSimulacra theory, it says that popular culture has mission to make the youthbecome a hyperealist so they can easily put into certain hegemony. From thisresearch, the results of the process of meaning in reading dystopian novel amongurban youth they are Temporary Simulacra Reader and Hyperealist Reader. Thosetwo models of reader is also a tricked created by the capitalist industry insidepopular culture
