Abstract :
This research was inspired by the image that there are more women than men work in the library, or being as a librarian. Imagining that there are more women than men work in the library, particularly on the front-line (circulation services) emerging some questions to search their professionalities related to the mastery to operate some information technology media due to the excessive emerging automation in library (especially university libraries). Some divisions are interested to be searched on the particularities to a gender or not. It is more importantly to search the division on using some information technology tools or not. This research was undertaken in some university libraries in Surabaya with both gender as the respondents. It is found that the positions of women are more disseminated than men. In fact the ability in using information technology tools (computer) to both gender is almost the same, but there is still different opportunities so that women have relatively lower ability than men. In other words, women can only operate such simple programs, while men operate more sophisticated programs. However, most women and men get their abilities from their own efforts such as from school or courses with lack of endorsement from the institution.
