Abstract :
The arrest of FIFA officials and the indictments of illegal money turnover practices inside the organization imposed by the US DOJ and FBI in May 2015 shocked the international world. The reasons beside the United States does not have a high interest in football, also basically an international non-governmental sport organization has a principle of nonintervention by states in the form of organizational autonomy and immunity. US intervention succeeded in making Sepp Blatter who was just elected as FIFA president for the fifth time putting its mandate and re-ignited their investigation related to the entitlements of 2018 and 2022 World Cup to Russia and Qatar. Researcher tried to find the motives of the US intervention along with the strategy they used. There are two approaches that take the investigators through the legal and political aspects. Legal aspects used to find loopholes FIFA and its relationship with the US as the executor and political aspects used to describe other motives appear behind the legal aspects involving Russia and Qatar that US intervention in FIFA scandal can be explained. This study aimed to analyze the decision of US intervention without measuring its effectiveness related to the range of research that was discontinued in the election of a new president of FIFA. Then for further investigation conducted by the DOJ and the FBI is still ongoing, is wide open other research opportunities especially for measuring the effectiveness and effects of US intervention into an international sporting organization, FIFA.
