Abstract :

This study is questioning about why the US government is being tough in responding the problems that afflicting one of their multinational companies, Google Inc. It would be problematic, because some US’ technology companies other than Google -like Microsoft, Apple, and Qualcom- also operating in Europe and also exposed to the same antitrust case. But US government showed a different and 'specials' responds towards Google conflict and the EU Commission. Therefore, it takes a series of thorough explanation to explain the relationship and linkages between Google and the US government. This study focuses on the US government involvement in the Google business since it’s establishment, it’s development, until the process of market expansion to Europe. This study also focuses on the strategic value that is owned by Google as well as the importance of Google for US foreign policy, so US government showed an aggressive respond in protecting Google's business in Europe. Researchers hypothesized that the emergence of aggresive responses shown by the US government in response to the case of Google in Europe occurs due to the intersection of economic and political interests between Google and the US government, which is then used by the US government to make Google as an agent to maintain the dominance of US’ information technology (IT) sectors in Europe.
