Abstract :
Conflict in Somalia began after the fall of Said Barre government in 1991, whopreviously ruled Ethiopia authoritatively. After that Somali Islamists began toappear with the aim to create an Islamic state with Islamic Shari’a basis.Ethiopia's involvement in the conflict of Somalia in 2006 was caused by fear ofthe spread of the conflict into the Ogaden region of Ethiopia which populatedby Somalia’s Moslem. In addition it is a relief for the Ethiopian’s to stabilizeSomalia and assist the TFG towards elections in 2009. However, the previousEthiopian involvement which is aggressive at first turned into a cooperationthat is more liberal on its way. Behind the history of conflict between the twocountries in 2006, Ethiopia agreed to cooperate with Somalia in handling theconflict between the TFG and the Ethiopian Muslim groups. This study willseek to explain the Ethiopian national interest associated with its participationin the Somalia conflict intervened in 2006 to 2009.
