Abstract :
This research tries to describe China’s interest in Syria conflict and why they want to solve it politically. The base of this researchis China’s change of attitude from being less interested in international conflict solving to be more active. The case of Arab Spring, specifically Libya, is an example of China’s former attitude of a less involving country in international conflict. This is particularly seen with China not giving any veto on every resolution from the United Nations Security Council. However, China has used four of its ten veto share on Syria conflict alone. With a defensive realism and national interest framework, this research will try to answer China’s interest in becoming more active politically in international conflict solving. The conclusion of this research supports the hypothesis that China’s economic and security are the interests in play. On economy, China tried to sustain its economic and potential enery cooperation with MENA countries. On security, it is China’s interest to ensure terrorism, extremism and separatism not spreading to China, especially Xinjiang region.
