Androgenic and anabolic effects of testosterone on day old chick

Abstract :

The experiment was conducted to determine androgenic and anabolic effects of testosterone on growth and weight of comb, bursa of Fabricius, spleen and testicle. Fifteen day-old-chicks divided into 5 groups classified as S0, S1, S2, S3 and S4. Testosterone propionate were injected intramuscularly at concentrations of 0 mg/0,2 ml; 0,2 mg/0,2 ml; 0,4 mg/0,2 ml; 0,8 mg/0,2 ml; and 1,6 mg/0,2 ml for S0, S1, S2, S3 and S4, respectively. The result showed that increase of body weight (∆ G) in treatment groups was not significantly (p>0.05) higher than that in control groups, whereas the weight of comb, bursa of Fabricius, spleen and testicle were significant (p
