Abstract :

This research explains about the transformation of India’s Blue Water Navy policy as a respond to China’s String of Pearls strategy. India’s maritime strategy relies on Blue Water Navy policy that intends to take control of sea area in Indian Ocean. This strategy also intends to prove that India is a maritime nation and the main actor in the region. However, India’s Blue Water Navy is challenged by the existence of China’s String of Pearls. It leads to the transformation of the dynamics of Blue Water Navy by increasing the capacities and capabilities of India as a maritime nation. This research intends to analyze the transformation of Blue Water Navy when faced with String of Pearls strategy. The range of this research is between 2004 to 2015. Researcher used defensive realism theory and sea power that leads to a hypothesis that India’s Blue Water Navy means to deter and balance China’s String of Pearls strategy.
