Kapabilitas hegemoni amerika serikat dan kontribusinya dalam penguasaan pasar industri kedai kopi dunia

Abstract :
One of the things that make the United States and its coffee industry interesting is its dominance over global coffeehouse market. American coffee companies collectively hold a global market share of 43.2%. However, in the coffee commodity chain, the United States is considered as one of the largest consumers rather than producers. This anomaly raises a question about how a country which is not a main producer dominates the market at the end of the commodity chain. Considering that the United States is a global superpower, this research tries to link American hegemony with market dominance. Hegemonic capabilities allow a country to take innovative steps in relation to the competitive advantage theory. This research finds that the United States possesses two hegemonic capabilities which enable it to take innovative measures: (1) its ability to set an agenda in order to create a conducive environment for the domestic coffee industry, (2) and its ability to help transform the coffee industry while turning itself into one of the most influential coffee cultures in the global coffee industry. Based on the findings, this research delivers an understanding about how hegemonic capabilities contribute to market dominance by a country, especially on a sector that is culturally sensitive like the coffeehouse industry.
