Abstract :
Biwater, is one example of a British MNC that came to South Africa in 1997. As a private corporation, Biwater tries to offer its service by providing a better quality water in South Africa which has lack of clean water. However, the privatization in water sector particularly in Nelspruit region gets massive resistence from the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU), a largest labours union in South Africa. Biwater has also signed a contract for 30 years with the government of South Africa in 1999. However, the increasing intensity of interaction between SAMWU, APC and PSI to resist the presence of Biwater has caused the discontinuation of all water processing and distribution activities in Nelspruit in 2001. This research focuses on further discussion on how SAMWU, APC and PSI are able to interact and suppress Biwater and successfully stop all Biwater’s activities in Nelspruit.
