Abstract :
Environmental breakdown and climate change are issues that are now being discussed in international relations. In it, there are actors which contribute on performing their roles on addressing the issues. One of them is Greenpeace who is incessant in expressing the importance to preserve earth’s environment, as in their case it is preserving the Great Barrier Reef as a world heritage. Thereafter, Greenpeace and its ranks sought to negotiate to attain their collective goal, which is to preserve GBR WH from the domination of coal companies, particularly a company called Adani, whom attained approval from the Australian government to expand their mine and to establish new terminal. This research involves analysis towards the role of Greenpeace as NGO in negotiating with the parties related to the preserving of GBR. To ascertain the degree of influence by Greenpeace in details, the author employs role approach and the degree of influence of NGO towards agenda to preserve GBR. In the study case, Greenpeace has only moderate influence towards their response to the Australian government caused by their ability to influence only to the degree of the negotiating process, whilst the outcome didn’t produce the objectivity intended by Greenpeace.
