Abstract :
n the midst of the existence of public libraries providing comic, emerging many comics fandom. Comics as cultural products that give interest to their readers. In the development of the comic is not just consumed (read) for recreational activities but more than that. For fans of the comic who has more love for comics, comic fans deliver in the process of expanding meaning. The fans of comics as a means of self-existence and self-actualization. The fans even develop joint activities within the group. There was a shift in the culture of fans, not just consumer culture, the participatory culture as a new culture among fans. Various forms of participation in fandom. Qualitative studies in this study tried to understand the participatory culture in a fandom. Through the perspective of cultural studies using ethnographic methods, this study sought to learn 1 the structure of meaning in the text that the reader consumed, and then relate it to behavior interpreted by members of fandom. Through the Komunitas Komik Bungkul Surabaya this research. This study resulted typology the participatory culture of fandom, Contemporary Comics Participant and Temporary Comics Participant. Temporary Comics Participant is a pseudo-fan (not a real fan) who interpret the functional activity of the comic consumption and tentative in the group. Contemporary Comics Participant is a fan of comics consumption activity that interpret symbolically and affiliated in the group are actively using all his ability to participate. Contemporary Comics Participant divided into two subtypes. First, Fanatic Fans, fans were simulated on the genre of comics and excessive consumption activities, many activities are affiliated in virtual and non-virtual. Lunar Fans, comic fans who have an interest in many genres, tend to be affiliated to the activities of non-virtual, virtual activity only as an alternative means
