Abstract :

Twenty first century is the era where information and communication technology (ICT) rapidly grow up. The technological advances that have been achieved to make this era known as the information age. ICT has now touched virtually every aspect of modern life that makes its own power for genaration who live in this century. Over time, the development of ICT is to bring the community to a higher level of civilization with a variety of new problems that must be faced. Previously, one of the problems is the digital divide, but over time as well as the development of market dynamics, information technology becomes cheaper and affordable for all people. It was then that the problem of how the use of technology began. This study discusses about how to use information technology to the students, especially students of the State University of Surabaya. This study assessed based on the opinions and theories of some experts. This study explores the use of information technology based on the use of access consisting of usage time, usage application: number and diversity, broadband or narrowband use and more or less active or creative use. The results of this study indicate that, use of information technology among students of the State University of Surabaya is still not significant. Utilization of information technology is mostly just for pleasure activities such as chatting, social networking and gaming
