Abstract :
Now days internet become a source of information that most people use to find theinformation needed, even for students. Use of the Internet to meet the needs of as a source ofinformation due to the easy, fast, accurate, inexpensive and accurate. Through the Internetstudents can access a variety of information and knowledge in accordance with the relevantrequirements according to their academic interests. Internet becomes an alternative option forstudents in addition to information retrieval library. Internet has many advantages notpossessed by the conventional sources of information, information that can be accessed fromvarious places without being restricted by distance, space, and time is one of the advantagespossessed by the internet. Thus enabling students to obtain information related to theiracademic through every related information access information sources on the Internet.This study uses a quantitative approach to the comparative type. Type comparativechosen by researchers because researchers wanted to compare how the use of the Internet bystudents and Fisip Fisip Unair UPN to meet the needs of the desired information, withoutperforming hypothesis testing. The number of respondents in this study were 100 people.Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews with some of the respondents whohave been selected by the researchers for answers as clear as possible and the facts thatsupport this research.The results of this study found that college students use the Internet Fisip Unair motifintegrative cognitive and social motives with Internet usage patterns in the category of heavyusers. To this effect will be felt as supporting the use of the internet is a medium tocommunicate and improve academic achievement. While the students Fisip UPN motivesunderlying the use of the Internet is cognitive motif usage patterns in the category of heavyusers which includes addict. To effect that is felt is capable of supporting media tocommunicate and improve the effectiveness of learning.
