Alasan tetap dipertahankannya program petrocaribe di wilayah karibia

Abstract :

PetroCaribe is Venezuela oil diplomacy established in 2005. PetroCaribe aims to provide oil to Caribbean countries with low prices and preferential payments options. The existence of PetroCaribe was questioned by domestic parties of Venezuela when the economic crisis began in 2014. The economic crisis triggered protests from the public, one of those was related to PetroCaribe. The government's opposition party (MUD) also claimed that PetroCaribe burdened the Venezuelan economy. In the midst of the protests, PetroCaribe was still maintained. From the research process that has been done using the theoretical framework of foreign aid, it was found that PetroCaribe's continuation were based on two things. First, geopolitical goal or critical geopolitics, which are spreading the New Left ideology and strengthening the ALBA alliance. Second, the influence of government group in deciding to maintain the PetroCaribe. The influence of the government group is inseparable from the influence of the ruling party, namely PSUV.
